Pastors
People who are ordained are called “pastors” from the Latin word for shepherd. Following the example of Jesus, a pastor both holds authority and administers compassion, both teaching and leading by example. In the Methodist tradition, the duties of the pastor have been described as Word, Service, Sacrament, Order, Compassion and Justice. Each pastor may be called to emphasize one or more of these duties from time to time, but every pastor holds responsibility and authority for all of these duties. The scope of the pastor is worldwide and the term of their service is lifelong, ministering to everyone in every place in the name of Jesus Christ.
